Class Experience
This ongoing class will allow students to prepare monologues, scenes, pantomimes, and musical numbers and play theatre games that encourage creativity, focus, and risk-taking in a fun and encouraging environment led by a theatre owner, director, and producer!
Each week will include an introduction and a discussion about a particular style of scene (weekly examples including: pantomime, monologues, duet scenes, group scenes, musical solos, duets, and group numbers) including strategies and challenges of each. Students will also be introduced to new plays and musicals with a discussion of scenes and songs that could be used from those shows (including, but not limited to popular Broadway shows such as Legally Blonde, Mean Girls, Shrek, Aladdin, Beetlejuice, and various plays). Students will divide into small groups to choose, prepare, and rehearse scenes to perform for the class.
A sampling of topics covered include:
* September 20-26: Group Scenes
* September 27-October 3rd: Duet Acting Scenes
* October 4-10: Monologues
* October 11-17: Pantomime
* October 18-24: Group Musicals
*Please note that students may choose to work on things outside of the topics covered and can add more than one scene to work on.
Students will be guided and directed by a professional director to scenes that are not only age-appropriate, but fun for everyone!

At Coley Communication & Performing Arts Academy, we empower young people to find their voice, embrace creativity, and shine on any stage - whether that stage is in front of a classroom or competition, a theater audience, or a Zoom screen!
We offer engaging classes in:
🎤Public Speaking (Presentation and Competition Preparation, Prepared Speaking and Impromptu Speaking Competition Clubs, Speech & Debate, Everyday Conversations)
🎭Performing Arts (Acting, Audition Preparation, Comedy, Improv, Play Reading, Monologue Preparation, Voice Acting, Scene Work)
✍️Communication Skills (Creative Writing, Technical Writing, Storytelling, and all aspects of communication).
We help students build confidence while strengthening essential life skills like adaptability, teamwork, critical thinking, and self-expression.
Our instructors are experienced performers, theatre educators, competition judges, and communication professionals. We bring decades of expertise in acting for stage and screen, theatre direction and production, vocal and speech coaching, comedy improvisation training, and public speaking for competitive and real-world settings.
We’ve taught thousands of learners globally - helping shy students speak up, imaginative students take creative risks, and passionate students take their first step toward a future in the arts.
We believe that everyone has a story worth sharing, learning should feel like play, confidence grows through creativity and practice (with a mix of silliness and healthy competition), and mistakes are not failures - they’re simply opportunities to grow!
Our teaching approach blends positive encouragement with professional-level skill building. We celebrate bold choices, curiosity, and the courage to step into the spotlight.
One more thing... We love games and challenges! Most of our classes include improv challenges, creative competitions, and interactive activities that make students laugh while they learn. We’re always cheering on students who bring their own flair - silly accents, dramatic entrances, spontaneous dance breaks… yes, please!
Every student leaves class a little more confident and a whole lot more inspired.✨
