Class Experience

This course is designed to help students jumpstart their learning into long division. In this one-time class, students will learn how to determine how many equal divisors will go into a given dividend by playing a fun game created by the teacher called "How Close Can You Get?" An example question would be "How many times will 5 go into 26?"

The format of this class will be as follows:
• Introduction to core division vocabulary
• Explanation/teacher modeling of how the "How Close Can You Get?" game works
• Students will answer a few questions together as a class
• Begin the "How Close Can You Get?" game
• We will finish the class by playing a game of Kahoot.

In preparation for this class:
Students will need paper and a pencil or a dry erase board and marker.

Please note that we will be using the educational website Kahoot.it to play an interactive game. It is free to use (no download or login required). In Kahoot students answer questions and compete against their classmates in real-time to gain points. The student with the most points at the end wins! Instructions on how to access and use Kahoot will be sent to all enrolled students and parents before class begins. It is recommended that you have a second device during class such as a cell phone or tablet to play Kahoot.

Students will need to know their basic multiplication tables before starting this lesson. If students struggle with their basic multiplication, no need to worry, the teacher will also show the students strategies to find the answer when they haven’t quite memorized them yet.

I look forward to helping you take your division skills to the next level!
